LODGE LIFE

The Ski Club of New Jersey boasts a fine Lodge located in Chittenden, Vermont. Accessible via a charming country lane, and situated on several acres of prime Vermont land, the Lodge is within driving distance of Killington and Pico Mountains, and just north of Rutland, Vermont. Less than a mile away is one of Vermont’s finest cross-country ski facilities, the Mountain Top Inn.

The Lodge features a full dining room, professional kitchen, and a warm and cozy living room with a well-used fireplace. There is also a recreation room in the basement with a ping-pong table, a pool table, and a foosball game table; typically, youngsters gather there after the day’s activities.

Ski club members lovingly maintain the Lodge by attending work weekends held at various times throughout the year, necessary for the proper maintenance of the Lodge (and a requirement of membership).  A visitor to the Lodge can’t help but note the careful maintenance, up-keep, and improvements proud Lodge members have made; and this visitor is treated to a photographic history of the Lodge showing the many Lodge events and trips which members have enjoyed throughout the year.  In a world of fast-paced living, Lodge life is a throwback to another era when folks worked together as neighbors and friends to hold things in common in a social club for the benefit of members. Few of these club endeavors survive the transience of modern day life, and the Ski Club of New Jersey’s Lodge is one of them.

The Lodge is the site of many recreational events throughout the year, besides providing lodging for skiers, fall foliage tourists, and spring and summer golf and water-sports enthusiasts. In fact the Lodge has annual Aqua Weekends, New Year’s Eve parties, and Chili Cook-offs, all events that are well attended by the membership.

Overnight stays at the Ski Club of New Jersey Lodge require member sponsorship. Visit us at our meetings held the second and fourth Thursday of each month, October through April, at the Maywood Inn, Maywood, NJ. Check the News and Events section of this website for all special activities and meetings.

CLUB SOCIAL EVENTS

The Ski club of New Jersey, in addition to making great use of its Lodge facility, also sponsors a variety of fun-filled events at various times throughout the year, culminating in a well-attended Spring dinner-dance most recently held at Madeleine’s in Northvale, NJ. Another important event is the Holiday Party held at the home of the ski club’s meetings: the Maywood Inn, in Maywood, NJ.  Other fun events are also hosted at the Maywood Inn, such as a St. Patrick’s Day party and an Oktoberfest all for the enjoyment of club members. Club members also meet in and around the Northern New Jersey area for hikes and recreational activities.

TRIPS

Many club members would agree the fabulous yearly ski trips sponsored by the club are one of the choicest benefits of membership. Each year a premium ski destination is scouted out and approved of by club members. Destinations such as Bormeo, Italy; St. Moritz, Switzerland; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Banff, Canada are just some of the varied ski resorts that the members have traveled to. These trips are carefully put together and typically include airfare, accommodations, breakfast, and discount lift tickets, and all of this is had for an extremely economical, all-inclusive price. Because the deals are terrific, these trips typically book quickly.

RACING AND SKIING INFORMATION

The ski club actively promotes racing for its members and as such keeps members informed in the Rucksack (the official publication of the Ski Club of New Jersey) of Ski Racing Council and Club information. Members are informed about NJ Ski Council racing dates, State Races, SCNJ Club Races, and race training information. Additionally, a dedicated liaison from the club is the contact for NJ Ski Council news, and members are updated regarding important information like lift ticket discounts, as well as Ski Council trips. Club members are also kept up to date on ASIA instruction opportunities and times and dates for SCNJ Ski/and Snowboard Proficiency test dates administered by ASIA certified instructors.
